Humans are cowards in the "phase" of happiness;

A/W 2017 I

This graduate collection took inspiration from the Japanese saying of 'Honne and Tatemae' in which ‘Honne’ refers to a persons’ true feelings and desires while the purpose of ‘tatemae’ is to hide your true feelings in respect of others, even to the extent of telling a white lie to make others happy.

Taking a quote from an old Japanese film 'Kamikaze Girls', the title of this collection describes the fear of happiness through a passage of time. It transcribes happiness as a form of vulnerability, one of fleeting nature such that it takes immense courage to hold on to it.

Seams are sewn inside out, collars inverted upwards, silhouettes are oversized, and the focus on sleeve detailing transcribes an intangible idea to physical form, materialising the reversed concept of this collection.
